Gary Mundy formed Ramleh in 1982 and founded the Broken Flag label in the same year, which became the centre of British power electronics. The early cassettes, five of them in 1982 alone, push electronics into the red under shrieked vocals, mostly improvised out of overloaded circuits and feedback.
With Philip Best alongside him, Mundy later carried the same approach into something closer to rock form, which is the shape most of the later records take. Ramleh lay dormant between 1984 and 1989 while Mundy worked on other projects. Broken Flag stopped in 1988, leaving its catalogue out of print, and started again in 1994.
