Hans Joachim Irmler is a founding member of Faust, one of the most influential krautrock groups in music history. Formed in 1971 in Wumme, Lower Saxony, Faust pioneered radical approaches to studio recording and live electronics. Irmler built his own custom organ and co-designed the band’s signature „black box“ effects units. Key albums include the debut Faust (1971), The Faust Tapes (1973) — famously sold at single price on Virgin Records — and Faust IV (1973).
Irmler has continued performing and recording as a solo artist and collaborator, releasing material on the Klangbad and Staubgold labels.
