About

Giancarlo Toniutti was born on 21 March 1963 in Udine. He started out with old analogue synthesizers and cosmic rock improvisation, then studied electronic music at the Venice Conservatory in the early 1980s. His first works, Wechselwirkung, Metánárkôsis and Das Todesantlitz, appeared as numbered cassettes in 1982 and 1983 in the Italian tape underground, where his brother Massimo was working too.

Since 1985 he has used acoustic sound sources only, treated by analogue means and magnetic tape. La Mutazione, assembled in Udine between 1985 and 1986, came out on Gary Mundy’s Broken Flag and remains his best-known record; Epigènesi followed in 1986 on his own K di Rⁿ. His work runs through industrial, musique concrète, field recording and drone.
