Das Synthetische Mischgewebe (DSM), meaning „synthetic mixed fabric,“ is a German experimental and noise project founded in 1980 in Berlin by Guido Hübner. The project emerged from the cassette culture movement and was inspired by industrial and avant-garde music, using custom-made instruments, hacked electronics, and sound installations. Isabelle Chemin was also a member during the project’s earlier years.
DSM has collaborated extensively with artists including New Blockaders, Frans de Waard, and Michael Northam, releasing material on labels worldwide. Now the sole project of Hübner, DSM has been active for over four decades.
