Alex Fergusson was born on 16 December 1952 in Glasgow. He played guitar and wrote songs in The Nobodies in 1976, then co-founded the punk band Alternative TV with Mark Perry in 1977. Their first release was a flexi disc given away with the final issue of Perry’s fanzine Sniffin’ Glue. Perry sacked him at the end of that same year.
After the short-lived Cash Pussies, Fergusson co-founded Psychic TV with Genesis P-Orridge in 1981, in the wake of Throbbing Gristle’s break-up. His guitar and songwriting shaped the first two albums, Force the Hand of Chance (1982) and Dreams Less Sweet (1983), and he co-wrote “Godstar”, which held the top of the indie chart for months. He left in 1987.
