About

Absolute Body Control was formed in Antwerp in 1980 by Dirk Ivens, with Mark De Jonghe on synthesizers and Veerle De Schepper on backing vocals. Ivens released it himself on his own Body Records, moving it through the international tape trading network. The sound owes its shape to Suicide and D.A.F.: drum machines cut back to the essential, cold looping sequences, a flat baritone over the top.

Their only 7″, “Is There An Exit?”, appeared on Blitz Records in 1981. When De Jonghe left, his replacement Eric Van Wonterghem had been in the audience at the band’s first concert. Five cassettes followed on Body Records across the decade, later collected as a box set. Ivens went on to The Klinik, Dive and Sonar.
