Judas Kiss (for Viva Negativa Vol.1 & 2)
Wow! What a fu**ing awesome release. OK, I don't often start my reviews on such a blatantly obvious note but I really can't help it in this case. Seriously I can't. And let me tell you why. In basic terms Viva Negativa! is a tribute/remix album dedicated to TNB who have pushed the boundaries of music and art until they have fused blurrily into one another. They've never made an effort to exploit their sounds and notoriety that comes from such abrasive recordings nor have they become the media darlings of the avant-garde crowd through hype and pompous posturings. They almost purposely keep themselves low key, but have slowly influencing a growing number artist and groups. And it's these artists who have joined forces on Viva Negativa! to pay homage to one of the most commercially understated and over-looked Noise groups. But this isn't any old tribute/remix album oh no, it's such much more than the norm. Harsh barrages of sonically nauseating noise and power electronics to dense walls of drones to a bombardment of fractured, distorted beats, to thick sludgy noise littered dark ambience to glitched, cut and paste electronics. The myriad of styles and the nature in which they are presented are truly impressive as is the relentless nature of its attack. Featuring a stunning array of artists, Viva Negativa! is a breathtaking release in it's own right but when you consider it is actually a homage to another group that has inspired everyone here then it seems all the more impressive and special, making it one of the most impressive Noise releases I've encountered.
